CWF Privacy Statement

As a subsidiary of Canadian Western Bank ("CWB") and an affiliate of Canadian Western Trust Company ("CWT") (collectively "the Bank"), CWF is also governed by the Bank's Privacy Code. We are strongly committed to earning and retaining your trust through friendly and efficient service and a strong privacy policy that protects the confidentiality of your personal information. Our commitment to this is contained in the Bank's Privacy Code, a copy of which is available upon request.

We collect information from you for the following purposes:

  • To understand your needs and determine the suitability of your investment decisions;
  • To allow us to communicate with you and service your account;
  • To provide you with information or services and investment products that we believe may be of interest to you;
  • To allow us to open one or more accounts with specific mutual fund companies relative to the investment choices you have made and to process such investment choices through an industry electronic network system;
  • To properly identify our clients under Canada's Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act; and
  • To comply with the law.

Your personal information may be disclosed to third parties under the following circumstances:

  • To meet legal and regulatory requirements;
  • To protect the Bank's business interest; and
  • To protect the public interest (example: to combat fraud or money laundering and terrorism).

Your personal information is shared, to the extent permitted by law, within the Bank, which provides deposit, loan, investment, securities, insurance, trust and other products and services. With this more comprehensive understanding, we are better able to meet your needs as they grow and change.

For regulatory purposes, self-regulatory organizations ("SROs"), including The Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada, require access to personal information for current and former clients, employees, agents, directors, officers, partners, and others, that has been collected or used by CWF. SROs collect, use or disclose such personal information obtained from CWF for regulatory purposes, including:

  • Surveillance of regulated trading activity;
  • Sales, financial compliance, trade desk review, and other regulatory audits;
  • Investigation of potential regulatory and statutory violations;
  • Regulatory databases;
  • Enforcement of Disciplinary proceedings;
  • Reporting to Securities Regulators; and
  • Information sharing with securities regulatory authorities, regulated marketplaces, other self-regulatory organizations and law enforcement agencies in any jurisdiction in connection with any of the foregoing.

You may withdraw all or part of your consent for us to use your personal information within certain legal restrictions. If consent is withdrawn, we may be limited in the services or products that we can provide to you.
